Scripture Text: Isaiah 53:1-6
Sermon Title: The King Who Was Promised
Easter begins with a promise — a Savior who would conquer
sin and death.
Throughout Scripture, God’s desire to be in relationship with human
beings is unmistakable. From the very beginning, God created
humanity not just to exist—but to live in fellowship with Him.
“If God were a quitter, the story might have ended at this point. But the
Bible insists that God is love. As a true lover, God never gives up on
those he loves.” Gilbert Bilezikian
Genesis 3:15 – The First Promise – A Savior is Coming
Isaiah 53 – The Savior Will Suffer
Isaiah 53:2 – The Unlikely King
Isaiah 53:3 – The Rejected Savior
Isaiah 53:4-5 – The Great Exchange
Isaiah is telling us something profound: God would not save the world
from a distance. He would enter into our suffering, take on our
suffering, take on our sin.
Isaiah 53:6 – The Human Condition
Matthew 16, 17 and 20 – Jesus Predicts His Own Cross
The road to resurrection was not hidden from Jesus. He walked it
knowingly, step by step toward the cross.
Grace at the Center of the Story
“Grace means there is nothing we can do to make God love us more…
and nothing we can do to make God love us less… grace means that
God already loves us as much as an infinite God can possibly love.”
Philip Yancey
